Yes, credit union accounts are insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) for up to $250,000.
Anyone is eligible to join WEOKIE who lives, worships, works (or regularly conducts business in), or attends school in the greater Oklahoma City area. This includes Canadian, Cleveland, Grady, Lincoln, Logan, McClain, Oklahoma, or Pottawatomie Counties, employees of the credit union, volunteers in the community, and immediate relatives of current WEOKIE members.
Banks and credit unions are structured differently. Banks are for-profit institutions that are concerned with earning a profit for investors. Credit unions, on the other hand, are nonprofit organizations where the members are the owners. Because they are nonprofit, credit unions tend to offer better interest rates and lower fees than banks.
Credit unions typically offer the same products and services as banks, including checking accounts, savings accounts, money market accounts, and others. They may also offer special benefits on certain products. WEOKIE Credit Union offers may include earning cash back rewards on a Visa® credit card, for example, that can be used for your Oklahoma City Thunder tickets or a fun day at the Oklahoma City Zoo!
